FAMILY’S FRIEND / A VISION TAKING ROOT

The Dream

Where healing
becomes heritage.

A place to begin again, together.

THE VISION

Land. People.
Purpose.

Family’s Friend is Benjamin Foskey’s vision for a nature-based retreat community where adults in recovery, veterans, and the people who support them can reconnect, learn practical skills, and find a clearer next step.

Shared meals. Quiet trails. Gardens and gathering places. Time with horses. A rhythm that makes room for both reflection and the everyday work of rebuilding a life.

The long-term dream is a lasting sanctuary. The first step is smaller: develop a carefully supported weekend with established venue, clinical, and equine partners, then learn from the people it serves.

A PLACE FOR HORSES

Connection, presence
& equine therapy.

Equine therapy is part of the planned program, delivered by an appropriately licensed mental health professional working with a qualified equine specialist. Separate equine-assisted learning activities would offer space to explore communication, boundaries, and choice.

The proposed pilot begins on the ground, with orientation, observation, and provider-led activities. Horse contact is optional, and a nature-based alternative will be available. Care for the horses, participant readiness, and qualified staff come first.

This is a program in development. Providers and dates are not yet confirmed. The retreat would complement ongoing care; it is not a detox service or a substitute for medical or mental health treatment.

THE FIRST EXPERIENCE

Root. Reconnect. Return.

  1. 01 / ARRIVE

    A calm beginning

Friday evening brings orientation, a shared meal, and space to settle in.

  2. 02 / PRACTICE

    Useful skills, real connection

Saturday combines life skills, an optional equine session, communication, and time outdoors.

  3. 03 / CARRY IT HOME

A next step that belongs to you

Sunday makes room for a chosen support person and a practical 30-day plan, with follow-up proposed after the retreat.

EXPLORE THE PLAN

From a dream
to a thoughtful plan.

Read the refined vision, retreat curriculum, and funding proposal. These September 2026 planning documents distinguish the first pilot from the long-term campus.

HELP THE VISION TAKE ROOT

A conversation
is a good beginning.

Connections to qualified equine providers, licensed clinicians, retreat venues, recovery and veteran-service organizations, and prospective sponsors can help shape the next step.
