SCENE: Same kitchen. 6:40am. Caffeine. The laptop is closed.

MOMENTUM: Morning. Eleven yesterday.

ME: Eleven calls.

MOMENTUM: Eleven calls, two callbacks, one guy who let you finish a sentence.

ME: The drywall guy.

MOMENTUM: The drywall guy. He was ninth on the list. Today he's first.

ME: Shouldn't we open the deck first?

MOMENTUM: Deck's done. It was done Tuesday.

ME: I could tighten slide nine.

MOMENTUM: Slide nine is fine. Dial.

He dials. Somebody picks up on the second ring.

ME: Morning. I called your office four times last week. Nobody picked up three of them.

DRYWALL GUY: That's not possible.

ME: Tuesday 8:14. Wednesday 11:50. Thursday twice. Six minutes of hold on the last one.

DRYWALL GUY: long pause ...say that again.

MOMENTUM: whispering Don't fill the silence.

ME: doesn't fill the silence

DRYWALL GUY: What's a missed call actually cost me?

ME: That's the number I go find.

DRYWALL GUY: How long?

ME: Friday.

MOMENTUM: He said Friday. We're doing Friday.

ME: I said Friday out loud.

MOMENTUM: That's the whole trick.

SCENE: Friday. 4:50pm. Report sent. Laptop closed again.

MOMENTUM: One done.

ME: One's not a business.

MOMENTUM: One is proof. Two is a pattern. Put the next name at the top and go to bed.

ME: That's it? No 47-page plan?

MOMENTUM: I've got a sticky note.

EPILOGUE:
Saturday, 7am, because contractors text on weekends.

DRYWALL GUY: "My wife read your report out loud at dinner. She got quiet at the part where you added it up for the year. I've got two guys in Bradenton who need to see their number. Where do I send them?"

ME: stares at phone
